He is the God who is Compassionate

Some scripture for you to look up:

  • Zephaniah 3:17
  • Lamentations 3:22-23
  • Psalm 23:6
  • Isaiah 49:13
  • Psalm 69:16-17
  • Psalm 86:15

  • 1 Peter 5:7
  • Psalm 116:5
  • Joel 2:13
  • Isaiah 30:18
  • Psalm 111:3-4

"The Lord's lovingkindness never ceases, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23

"Shout for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth! Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion on His afflicted." Isaiah 49:13

"Just as a father is compassionate towards his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him." Psalm 103:13

Compassion is defined as "sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it." The God of all creation is conscious of our distress and our hurt. Lamentations tells us that He is faithful to us in His compassion... He never fails. I love Psalm 103:13 because it gives us a relatable comparison. Just as a parent has compassion and deep care for their child, God feels the same way towards us. We can think of Him as a Father who always wants to best for us and who desires to have compassion on us. Isaiah 49:13 reminds us that this compassion should lead us to praise and worship of the Father. Consider this... The perfect, holy, uncreated God looks down on sinful man and has deep care for us. The perfect God reaches down in love to imperfect man. This, friends, is the gospel.

Make a list of the ways the Lord has comforted you and shown compassion towards you. Think back to hard, difficult days and trace His hand and His heart. Reflect on the ways He has come to you in your distress and praise Him for His care for you!
