Remember & Rest | Finding Rest in Scripture through every Anxiety

Remember & Rest | Finding Rest in Scripture through every Anxiety

Anxiety can present itself in many ways. If you are feeling debilitated by anxiety and worry there’s wisdom in seeking the help of a medical professional or counselor.

Today I want to give you a peek into all the things that make up Remember and Rest! In this journal you’ll find four sections of different passages of scripture to help you walk through your anxiety.  I’ve structured it this way because I know how difficult it can be to walk through moments of worry and anxiety. Not only do I want to encourage you with scripture about your anxiety, but I also want to help you look up in the midst of your anxiety.  When we look up and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus our anxiety will be eclipsed by who He is. So often my thoughts can spiral if I don’t actively take them before the Lord and choose to meditate on scripture and who God is. When I’m able to walk through a verse in each of these sections, I can more quickly start to trust the Lord with my fears and anxieties and I can turn my focus from my own anxiousness to Christ. I want the truth of who God is to be buried in our hearts. In this journal you’ll find four sections to help you do this.

Verses for the Anxious Heart:  In the first section we’ll walk through verses about anxiety and worry and look at ways to deal with them in our own hearts. On the front side of each page you’ll see the key verse and on the back you’ll find some short devotional content that helps break down the context of the passage. At the end of each short devotional you’ll find more verses and passages of scripture that correlate to our main verse to help you continue to study for context and understanding. You’ll also find an application question to help you start to practically work through what each verse and passage of scripture means for your anxiety. As I created this journal it was very important to me to not just include a bunch of verses that could be related to anxiety but to truly give you insight and context into why these verses were written. Understanding where verses fit inside of the whole work of the bible is vital to us understanding scripture correctly!

Attributes of God:  After we walk through verses about anxiety we’ll focus on lifting our eyes up and away from our worry and onto God and who He is. Knowing more of who He is will affect how we view our anxiety. We’ll look at three different attributes of God (God is infinite, God is holy, God is sovereign) and in the process we’ll work on fixing our gaze on Him instead of our anxiety. You’ll find a handful of verses and passages of scripture that support each attribute that you can then study on your own.

Remembering What God Has Done:  Once we spend time reflecting on who God is, we’ll work on remembering what God has done in scripture and in our own lives. I talk all about this in the remembering section (and I’m going to share it here on the blog soon!) but I believe remembering is one of the most important things we can do as believers. After you read through the passage of scripture I give, you’ll start the process of “remembering” for yourself. This is such a vital part of this journal!

Pouring Out Praise:  Finally, after we’ve walked through all of these things we will focus on praising the Lord for who He is and what He’s done! Once we’ve worked through each of these things we should have a better understanding of who God is even in the midst of our fear and anxiety. Our response should always be praise!

It’s my desire that you would make this journal your own.  Use the blank pages to make notes or add more verses that the Lord uses in your life.  Study further with the additional verses I share and dig into these passages for yourself.  I’m praying over you that the Lord would use this anxiety and worry in your heart to draw you closer to Him. Memorize these verses, keep this journal in your purse for when you need to be reminded of these verses quickly. or use it as a guide for your personal study through scripture.  Let’s keep our eyes up. To God be the glory.
